The inspection report of forest fire drill



Japan is a mountainous country. A mountains zone is located also in Tokyo.

Mt.Takao and Mt.Ontake are popular as an easy hiking course.

Though regrettable, the forest fire has occurred also in Tokyo every year.



As for Tokyo F.D. and a local volunteer fire corps, the correspondence

to a forest fire are called for. And they are exercising usually.


This time, we inspected forest fire drill carried out as part of Spring Fire Prevention Campaign in 2004.

		This drill is carried out at once for a year. And large-scale training for extinguishing a forest fire is developed. This time it was held by Meisei univ. of Ome-city on March 7, 2004. (It will expand, if a left picture is clicked.)
		Training starts in the report by the cellular phone. The hiker who discovered the forest fire reports. Then, the firefighter who rode on the fire-fighting motorbike arrives. The fire-fighting motorbike goes into a mountain in quest of still more detailed information,and headquarters are contacted on radio.
		Ome fire station and the Ome city volunteer fire corps also arrived there. They prepare local headquarters and command a fire company.

The aid unit who concentrated from every place
		Many labors are more nearly required for fire extinguishing of a forest fire than an ordinary fire. Besides the local unit, the staff of reinforcement was dispatched from every place in the city of Tokyo, and it participated in training this time. A hose is shouldered and carried, and the water used for fire extinguishing relays two or more pumps, and is sent. In this drill, water was sent over 1.3km.
		Mountains rescue training was also carried out in this drill. Firemen ran up the slope of a mountain and conveyed the wounded person on the basket type stretcher. In T.F.D,four mountains rescue teams are stationed.
		Two squads participated from Ome city volunteer fire corps. The thing which the member is carrying on his back is the fire-extinguishing equipment called "Jet Shooter."　It is used for processing of embers.
	The fire-fighting helicopter also supported fire extinguishing from the sky. The helicopter of Yokohama, Chiba, and Saitama also participated, and the fire was extinguished by the formation flight.

Thus, the fire company succeeded in envelopment of a forest fire.

The last performed simultaneous water-drainage and training for 2 hours was ended.


When you also go to a mountain, be careful of management of fire.
